FEP resources

An FEP plan provides members with unique resources, from free health screenings to medication management programs, that help them live their healthiest lives.

Prescription drugs

Some prescription medications require pre-approval from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC).

Before you buy, you can check to see if your prescriptions need pre-approval by visiting the FEP Blue pharmacy page⁠. You can also call the Retail Pharmacy Program at 800-624-5060, or check your plan brochure for more information.

Pre-approvals for medical services

Some procedures and services require pre-approval from Blue Cross NC. Services that may require pre-approval include: 

  • Hospice care 
  • Inpatient hospital admission 
  • Organ and tissue transplants 
  • Mental health and substance use disorder care

Before you make your appointment for these services, have your doctor or provider call us at 800-222-4739. Your doctor can also find pre-approval forms on our provider prior authorization page

Health management programs

If you have questions about your health or a condition that requires special care, we can help.

Chronic condition management

Members with chronic health issues like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease may be eligible for Healthy Endeavors℠. By calling 888-392-3506, members can talk with a trained nurse health coach at no extra cost.

Case management program

Our nurse case managers can teach members about complex health conditions, provide reading materials to learn more, coordinate care with doctors, and help create a preventive care plan for healthier living. Call 888-234-2415 to talk with a case manager.

Medication therapy management

We provide medication therapy management (MTM) to members with a Service Benefit Plan. By calling 984-364-3798, members can talk with clinical pharmacists who can help identify, prevent, and resolve any medication-related problems, from side effects to drug use for non-medical purposes.
